“Financial literacy” means having the knowledge needed to make the most effective financial decisions, which ranges from daily spending through saving for retirement, purchasing through investing. Understanding fiat currency and commodities is also important given the unstoppable growth of cryptocurrency, which has added a new layer of discussion around how people can access and hold value.

Essential to BitIRA’s mission are education and empowerment, with our core efforts geared towards personal finance and retirement. We strive to help our customers position themselves for maximum success, but this initiative extends far beyond our customers—and directly into our homes and communities.

As much as we want for there to be equal opportunity for all, we acknowledge that society isn’t there yet, with entire demographics underrepresented—but we can have a role in moving progress along.

That’s why, for the year 2020, we’re proud to announce the first annual BitIRA Financial Literacy for Women Grant.

We’ve been engaging with people across the United States and around the world with our efforts to educate girls and women on the opportunities they have to enter careers in entrepreneurship and tech, including cryptocurrency and blockchain—but that’s not enough.

We need to support the boots on the ground that are helping girls and women of all ages realize that the door is open for them not just to take control of their careers, but also to achieve financial success—starting with financial literacy.

This year, we’ll be awarding a $4,000 grant to a 501(c)3 non-profit, registered in the United States, that demonstrates a central mission or dedicated initiative aiming to heighten financial literacy for girls and women of any age, in any way. “Financial literacy” is a broad topic, and we are extremely open-minded about what it entails.

We invite all qualified nonprofits to apply using the application form here.

Applications were originally due May 20, 2020, but in light of the coronavirus pandemic this deadline will be extended; please stay tuned for further updates. The winner will be notified and publicly announced shortly thereafter.
